Harod Valley

We are standing on Tel Jezreel looking east and slightly south. The shoulder of Mt Gilboa can be seen on the right edge of this photo and the Spring of Harod, where Gideon's band drank is against the flank of Mt Gilboa, to the right of the small lake in the center of the picture,2 miles or so away.

The Hill of Moreh is off the picture to the left and the Jezreel Valley is to the left rear of this spot. The host of Midian was spread through the valley to the left of this photo clear to the base of the Hill of Moreh.

"And the Midianites and Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along the land like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the seaside for multitude." (Judges 7:12)

During the night they were surrounded by Gideon's band of 300 warriors. Some of Gideon's men must have crept across this very vista to surround the host of Midian and send them fleeing to the east in panic.
