Herodium

A fortress-palace built by Herod the Great about four miles southeast of Bethlehem. Herod was buried there. The fortress, captured in A.D. 72, was one of the last strongholds of Jewish resistance in the war with Rome. The Herodium served as a supply depot in the unsuccessful revolt of A.D. 132-135.
