Looking northward to the Hill of Moreh across the Jezreel Valley. "Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod;so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh, in the valley." Judges 7:1 So Gideon's men were camped only a couple of miles away from the Midianites (Near En Harod on the Map). The photo above was possibly taken near the very place that Gideon stood when the Lord spoke to him saying, And the LORD said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you and deliver the Midianites unto thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place. Judges 7:7 Gideon started with 22,000 men and is now down to 300 men to confront the Midianite host, who were deployed along the Jezreel valley at the foot of the hill of Moreh. "And the Midianites and the Amelekites and all the children of the east lay along the valley like grasshopers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude" Judges 7:12. Gideons small band separated into three companies on the North, South, and West of the Midianites; each with a trumpet and a shielded lamp. When the trumpets were blown and the lamps were raised with a clamor of trumpets and shouting, the Midianites arose and fled to the East in panic and disarray. A great victory, won not by might of arms, but by the LORD. Photo courtesy of BiblePlaces.com |
